It was just a bit after noon when Melody wandered into the gaming room. She had already managed to procure lunch from the Dining Hall, and now she wanted some time to herself. That was exactly what purpose these sectioned off areas would serve. With her iPod in her hand, and the volume cranked up, Melody was doing her best to tune out her thoughts. She had only recently run into her father, and Melody didn't want to think about that. She wanted to lose herself in the music, and maybe play a little bit? But it wasn't like there were any pianos in the area, so Melody was a little bit out of luck there. Instead, she would have to make do with her iPod, which was quite possibly damaging her hearing as she wandered into one sectioned off area.
The TV section was just a bit too large for one girl. But to tell the truth, Melody really didn't mind. The dorm rooms were pressing in around her again, making it hard for her to deal with being cooped up in that place. The extra space was relaxing for Melody. It was better than being in a tiny room. That was probably the wolf in her that longed to get out. Melody could feel the restlessness stirring in her bones and in her personality, making the anger that lurked beneath the surface come a little bit closer to her obvious personality.
Melody refused to let it win, however. There was nothing to be gained from anger. And Melody never wanted to be like the werewolf that had attacked her. She did her best to control herself in her werewolf form (and failed miserably, but that was a tale for another day) so that she would never attack another person and turn them into the kind of monster that she was. Melody usually didn't spend this much time dwelling on things that she couldn't change. But seeing her father had shaken her, made her reflect a bit more on her past. Soon, Ceol would be attending SOHT. Her little brother.
Sighing, Melody flopped down on a couch, flicking her flipflops off and tucking her legs underneath her body as she stuffed the other earbud in and leaned against the couch, her eyes drifting shut as she let the music wash over her. It was loud enough that it allowed her to tune the world out. It let Melody just stop thinking. She was content in that moment, the music drowning out the world and especially her thoughts.

There was anticipation, and then there was mind boggingly, insane anticipation, enhanced by having to wait. Alteid was experiencing the latter. He had recieved the good news in the middle of lunch, and he had bolted down his still steaming stew faster than he would ever think possible. He had returned to his dorm room to get it ready, cleaning his side of the room and clearing space for the cage and other nessecities. It took all the restraing he had not to rush out to the nearest pet store right away, his parents had assured that all the nessecities were being sent as well.
Really, Alt wasnt in the mood to relax, but really there was nothing else to do, the plane wouldnt be at the Yellowstone Regional Airport until nine. He was class free, all studying had been completed earlier, and he really didnt have anyone to associate with. The quiet teen, therefore, found himself walking into one of the many TV rooms. A few of them were occupied, a few were not, but by chance he happened to be sharing a space with one other person; a teen girl, close to his age it seemed, sporting brown hair with blonde highlights and one blue stripe. He had seen her around before, but never stopped to chat.
She was relaxing on the couch, ipod probably blasting music. With no reason to talk to her, Alt sat on the armchair a few feet away, looking around the room while pulling at his black slacks and polo. If only Alt had thought to bring along a book, even though most of them had been reread to the point of tears. Really the only thing he had to do was glance at his watch on his write, marking the slow passage of time. You know, this is way too boring. He thought to himself, glancing in the girls direction again. Just say hi, and if all goes well, you might meet someone new, if not, just walk away. Yeah, excellent idea.
Alt stood up and walked over to the couch, trying to make eye contact with its current occupants blue eyes, and smiled apologetically. "Hey, hi, umm, do you mind if i sit here? Next to you?" He questioned haltingly, gesturing to the empty part of the couch. He felt kind of foolish, standing there and asking a fairly random girl if he could sit next to her when there were empty seats all around the room. Steady Alteid, if you look like a fool then you look like a fool, thats just appearance.

There was someone else in here. Melody noticed that only belatedly, inwardly feeling slightly annoyed about that. Of course, she immediately felt bad about that, even though he had no way of knowing that she had been irritated. But it was the twitchy wolf that lurked beneath the surface that made her want to lash out, even to a boy that she had never spoken to before. He hadn't even tried to talk to her, so she had no right to be irritated with him.
Melody inhaled, closing her eyes for a moment and relaxing. Her eyes fluttered open a moment later, and Melody jolted to that the teenager had moved, relocating while her eyes had been shut to stand next to her. It took Melody a long moment to calm her wildly thundering heart, but when she finally relaxed, Melody tugged one headphone from her ear, tilting her head slightly to the side, eyeing him curiously. What brought this teenager over here?
She didn't have to wait long to find out. "Nope, not at all." Melody grinned cheerfully. It would never have occurred to her to be irritated by him sitting next to her. And the fact that he had asked was nice. It wasn't often that one came across someone as polite as this guy. So Melody definitely wouldn't mind at all if he sat next to her. He seemed pretty friendly and entirely non-threatening (unlike a certain someone). "Go ahead and sit." Melody said cheerfully, wriggling slightly as she glanced up at the guy again.
Stretching her arms above her head, Melody yawned slightly before glancing curiously at him again. "My name's Melody!" She chirped happily, "Second year magic student. And you?" Melody was curious about the stranger that was sitting next to her. If he was going to sit with her, she wanted to know something about him.
Besides, Melody would do anything to keep her mind from wandering on down the path of her father. So between the music that slammed her eardrums and the hopeful conversation that she might carry with this guy, Melody was hoping that she wouldn't be able to think about her father appearing out of nowhere after years of not speaking to her or her mother. Anything was better than thinking about that. She just wanted to pretend everything was normal for a moment.

Alteid beamed in response to her positive answer and took a seat on the couch, making sure he wasn't too close. "Thanks." Was the grateful response. But now he was at a loss, he stared at his feet, smoothed out his shirt, but didn't quite meet her eyes, his bout of confidence had deserted him. There was something about her that made him feel a bit uncomfortable. Shes a stranger, simple as that. He explained to himself, and he agreed with a mental nod. He did that a lot, talk to himself in his head that is, it improved clarity.
He looked up, meeting her eyes glancingly as she spoke up, introducing herself. She seemed to be social, and not awkward at all. That certainly helped Alt. "Pleasure to meet you Melody! Usually my mates call me Alt" He began, accent starting to take root, "But my name is actually Alteid, i don't know what my mum was thinking when she named me..." He mumbled, embarrassed by his label, he had always thought it was a weird name himself. "I'm a second year too though! Earth Science major." He smiled again as he thought about his chosen path of education, Alt thoroughly enjoyed his major.
"Your a magic major...so... are you good? What can you do? Is it fun?" He started to ask, curiosity getting the better of him. He hung his head when he realized he was basically spamming her with questions. "Sorry. Sometimes i get a bit worked up." He said in quiet voice. "My mum says that i tend to yabber on. " He shrugged, almost to himself. I really should work on that.

Tugging the other earbud from her ear as her companion started to talk, Melody gave up on trying to multitask and focused her attention solely on her companion. "No problem-o!" Melody answered him cheerfully, shifting to the side slightly to ensure that he would have plenty of room to sit.
Alt. An interesting name, though Melody didn't have much room to talk. Her father's name was Genesis and her little brother's name was Ceol. Melody and her mother had the most normal names of everyone in their family. "Nice to meet ya, Alt." Melody nodded, using his nickname with a grin. She would certainly like to be considered one of his friends. Melody generally wanted to be friends with every. Except for bullies, but then, they fell in a completely different class from everyone else in Melody's mind. "I like your name." She added after a moment, "Could be worse! My little brother's name is Ceol and he never hears the end of it in school. He'll be coming here in a few years, come to think of it. If you're still around, maybe you can meet him!" Looking amused by the thought, Melody had to resist the urge to laugh. "Well, I'm assuming he'll go here, anyways. I'm here, aren't I?" It was more of a rhetorical question than anything else. She definitely was there.
When Alteid started to chatter, Melody relaxed slightly, her gaze flicking towards her lap. It was only when he apologized that she glanced up again, shaking her head easily. "Oh, it's no big deal! I dunno if I'm any good, but I spellsing. It's basically like spells but they involve singing and music. I can mostly only do basic stuff right now but one day I want to become a healer. Or something like that, anyways." Melody hadn't really put that much thought into her future. "What about you? What's being an Earth Science major like?" What was it like to have classes that didn't involve the magic that Melody had grown up with? It was certainly an interesting thought. Maybe next year she would take an Earth Science class. Or maybe not. But it could be fun.

Alt was glad that she liked his name, personally, it annoyed him at times, but it was unique enough that he was the only person that turned when it was called. It gave him a small bit of pride. Melody also seemed excited about her brother coming here, family. I guess i can relate partly. He thought to himself, thinking about his earlier cause for excitement. Just being able to share the experience was exciting enough. He laughed along at her quip, enjoying the humor and almost feeling his body lose tension.
He grinned on the inside, and partly on the outside. She hadnt even been bothered by his spiel, that was good. Sometimes he even annoyed himself with that. "Healing by spellsinging, good oil, im sure you'll get up to whack in no time." He said, even though Alt had no idea how good she was, she seemed the determined type.
He stood at rapt attention when she mentioned earth science. "Its a lot of studying, but it sure pays off. My old man does drainage management, so im mulling over getting into hydrology. Doesnt sound as exciting as i make it out to be does it?" Alt asked with a carefree look, no matter if it seemed boring to other people, it was just right for him. Surely didnt sound as exciting as spellsinging, or half of the other things people studied here.
