Why was he awake? Vincent was exhausted, physically and mentally. But he just couldn't sleep. That was all there was to it. It was about 6 in the morning on that Saturday, and Vincent wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep. He couldn't, however. He had been trying for hours. He had awakened from a particularly violent nightmare many hours ago (perhaps at midnight or so) and now he was wide awake.
There was no point in trying to sleep anymore. Vincent sighed and slid out of bed, shaking his head irritably and running one hand through his hair as a half-hearted attempt to brush it. With that, he wandered to his closet and grabbed some clothing. A simple pair of black jeans soon adorned his body, along with a white t-shirt and a red hoodie that he donned because it was rather chilly in the dorm room. He was dressed in the kind of things that he usually wore. Vincent had a pretty much inexhaustible supply of jeans and t-shirts, and this hoodie was his pride and joy. He loved it. Well, as much as one could love an inanimate object, anyways.
Sighing, Vincent wandered quietly out of his room, doing his best not to disturb his roommate as he slipped the door quietly shut behind him. Still half-asleep, the man wandered towards the Lounge. He made his way there in mostly one piece, though he did manage to bark his shin on something on the way there. Just another sign of the fact that he wasn't particularly wide awake. Normally, Vincent had it together. But today he simply didn't. As an ROTC student, he needed as much sleep as he could get because ROTC was actually pretty hard on his body. So he was definitely feeling it.
Wandering up to an empty table, Vincent flopped down and buried his head in his arms. There was almost no one in the lounge, so Vincent felt comfortable, his eyes drifting half-shut. Within moments, he had reached a state halfway between wakefulness and sleeping. It wasn't very restful, but since Vincent didn't want to keep his roommate up by tossing and turning non-stop, he figured that this would have to do. [/blockquote]

Alicia had been afraid to sleep in her dorm. Since her roommate moved out to live with her boyfriend, Yuffie had gotten ahold of the extra key, which made sleeping dangerous in there. So what did the Warrior girl do? Of course, she stayed on her computer until about midnight, then moved to the lounge and dozed on one of the couches with a movie playing on her laptop. She eventually had fallen asleep, and stayed asleep for most of the night, until the sound of someone running into an end table jolted her awake. She sat up from the old tattered couch and looked around. It took her eyes a moment to adjust to the odd, dusty lighting of the lounge, but then she froze.
She couldn't move as she looked at the dozing figure at the table. IT WAS HIM! She felt like she was freaking out and couldn't breathe. What should she do? She didn't know! Half of her mind wanted to get up and run back to her room, no matter how dangerous it was. Yet, the other half wanted to tough it out and talk to him. Then, she noticed that he seemed to be in a doze. She blinked, her emotions calming slightly as she looked at him. She was bundled up in about four of her blankets, and in sweats and a hoodie, just to protect herself from the chill that seeped through the windows and into the room, yet he was just there in a hoodie. Alicia stood up slowly and quietly as she pulled one of her thinner, yet sofest blankets from her nest. It was a deep purple blanet that was as soft as could be. She smiled to herself as she got some of her guts gathered, and as silently as she could, made her way to where the young man was trying to sleep.
She quietly walked up to the young man's back and lightly draped the purple blanket over his shoulders and neck. Then, at about three times the speed she had walked over in, she went back to the couch and sat down in her nest of three blankets. She silently giggled to herself, enjoying the odd feeling in her stomach, then turned her laptop back on and started to rewatch episodes of The Big Bang Theory. She kept the volume low, as to not disturb the young man that had her stomach doing backflips.

Vincent hadn't noticed his companion, except to note that the lounge wasn't entirely empty. As it was, he might have never noticed her more than that if she hadn't wandered up to him. At the sound of nearly silent footfalls, Vincent's eyes snapped open, but he didn't lift his head. Instead he waited silently to see what would happen. When the blanket touched his shoulders, Vincent had to force himself not to react. Instead, the young man took a moment to appreciate the warmth of the blanket. It certainly was chilly.
He lifted his head slightly, crimson gaze tracking the form of the girl as she hurried away. Vincent looked amused by the sight of her hurrying off, and a plan formed slowly in his mind. The teenager waited for a moment, watching until he was sure that she was involved in watching her laptop before he rose smoothly to his feet.
Wandering silently towards her, Vincent stretched slightly, wrapping the blanket around his shoulders like a cape. It dragged a bit at the floor, but Vincent wasn't too worried by it. It was comfortable and warm in the chilly lounge, and Vincent really did appreciate it. Even if the girl was being rather questionable by running off as soon as she offered him the blanket. Still, it wasn't like Vincent had any room to judge.
He walked past her quietly, padding up to sit down on the couch that she was currently sprawled on, flopping down a few feet away from the girl. "Thanks." Vincent said, gesturing vaguely at the blanket as he wrapped it tighter around him. It wasn't the most masculine blanket he'd ever seen, but it was warm. What he really wished was that SOHT would fix the ridiculous air conditioning or whatever was going on. It was cold. They really needed to fix that.
But at the moment, Vincent figured that there were bigger things to worry about. "My name's Vincent. What's yours?" With that, he fell silent for good. He wasn't really planning on talking about anything else, however. This girl, for all that he had never really spoken to her before, had given him a blanket for no reason at all. Who could blame him for being curious?
Though now that he thought about it, Vincent had had seen her around. Not all that often, but he had seen her a few times. She looked familiar, though Vincent was certain that he hadn't spoken to her before. Which was what made her actions that much weirder. So Vincent was curious as to why she had done what she did. Not that he really showed it. Instead, Vincent stretched lazily and snorted to himself, keeping quiet for the time being.

It took alicia a few moments to actually burrow into her three other blankets. She was like a canine, nesting, pulling one blanket over her chest, one over her shoulders and back, and the last one just totally wrapped around her frame. By the time her shows intro theme song was done, she had finally found her comfortable position, leaning on one of the couches arms, and curled into a ball with almost nothing but her face showing from under her hiding place of blankets.
Had it not been for the small vision of movement out of the corner of her eye, Alicia would not have noticed Vincent until he had sat down. Yet, the small movement gave him away, and with a small jump of surprise, she watched him as his sat down on the couch too. She only looked at him, and could feel her face turning hot and red as he thanked her. "I-It was nothing," She said softly, trying to push back her embarassment and shyness towards this man. She couldn't help but look at his gaze, which in her mind, was one of the most amazing features on him. Not that she could find anything on him that she didn't like already. He was handsome in her mind, and it had her mind spinning, her heart skipping, and her stomach flipping. Yet, his gaze made her think of rubies, which were her favorite gem and stone. Yes, his gaze really did make her think of liquid rubies.
Wait... She blinked her own silver and red eyes as she looked at him, trying to place what he just asked with an answer. "OH!...Uh..I-I'm Alicia," She side shyly as she burrowed her face into her blankets a little, trying to hide the blush that was taking hold of her face. She could feel the heat all the way to her ears, and was almost certain he could see it too, even in the dusty light. Hell, she had the feeling that she was GLOWING with red at this point.
As silence took ahold, she became frantic to start up a conversation. She didn't want him to leave! She wanted to gaze at him more! "What are you going into?" She asked quickly, just hoping that the question would keep him there for a little bit longer. Maybe she could get up the guts to ask him to go to breakfast with her. Oh, no. That would be a bad Idea... Yuffie would be at breakfast. OH! Maybe she could get up the guts to ask him to GO INTO TOWN for breakfast with her. Yes! That was perfect...except for the point that Alicia was beginning to doubt her ability to ask him anything too much more than what his major was.

- - - - - - - - - - a warning to the people, the good and the evil this is war - - - - - - - - - - Vincent looked amused by her stuttering voice, but other than that, the young man was silent, his sharp crimson gaze sharp despite his exhaustion. He could deal with a lack of sleep. After all, he wasn't Vincent Valentine for nothing. The young man was far from wimpy, though he wasn't the most intimidating looking man around. Of course, his crimson eyes tended to be rather intimidating. It amused Vincent that she had hardly reacted to his stare. Sure, she seemed nervous, but Vincent wasn't entirely sure why. It wasn't the typical nervousness that Vincent experienced.
He blinked when she spoke, committing the name to memory. He was silent for a moment as he fixed the name to the face before speaking. "It's nice to meet you, Alicia." Vincent nodded once, falling into silence as swiftly as he had spoken. In truth, it was nice to meet her. He wouldn't have said so otherwise. Her gesture of kindness had not gone unnoticed. For all that Vincent hadn't thought that there was anyone else there at this early hour, he had been pleasantly surprised by this girl's appearance. She seemed . . . nice. Which was as close to a compliment as Vincent was going to get.
The conversation lapsed into silence. Vincent wasn't one for small talk, so he was content to let it go, yawning idly in the silence as he adjusted his weight a bit beneath the blanket that Alicia had provided him with. He could feel the warmth beginning to seep into his chilled body, the combined warmth of the blanket and the hoodie that he always wore finally kicking in. He could almost fall asleep in that moment, and was as close to dozing off as he had been in hours.
Unfortunately for Vincent, the moment was shattered by Alicia speaking again. He blinked repeatedly, yawning as he shook himself slightly. "I'm an ROTC major." Vincent said with a nod. "Fourth year. You?" He glanced at his companion curiously. She did look familiar, but he was almost certain that she wasn't an ROTC major like himself.
Vincent was pretty much oblivious to her discomfort. Mostly, he was tired. That was the dominant emotion in his mind. But he felt better than he had before. Maybe it was because he was actually carrying a conversation instead of dwelling on his sleepiness. That was probably it. Besides, Vincent had no time to wonder about that. His stomach was grumbling unhappily, demanding for food to satisfy its emptiness.
Stretching his hands above his head idly, Vincent yawned again. "I'm hungry. Want to get some breakfast?" Vincent asked smoothly. He wasn't planning on going to the Dining Hall. That place wasn't particularly good. Besides, Vincent knew of some great places in town. He might be new, but he wasn't uneducated. Due mostly to his loner nature and spending very little time socializing, Vincent had spent a lot of time wandering this small town that was now his home. He wasn't sure he liked it that much, but he was stuck there so he might as well make the best of it. And he was hungry. So this Alicia needed to hurry up and decide what she wanted to do. If she didn't want breakfast, he'd get it on his own, thank you very much.

Alicia really didn't notice that the other student had started to doze off again when she had spoken. Instead, she only looked back at him when he started to speak again. She tried to keep herself calm, and not look like she was flipping out, even though she really was inside. Inside, she was dying, and wanting to run away from the man that she was happy to admire from a distance. Yet, she was also dying of the happiness that she had actually been brave enough to give him that blanket, for, look where she was now!!
Then Vincent said the ugly word. More like the ugly four letters. ROTC. "Oh, I am so sorry. I mean..." She looked down for a moment, trying to find a better way to say what she was actually trying to say. "I mean... Mustang and I just don't get along, so I kinda' feel bad for you having to deal with him. Though I'm sure he is an awesome Military General and ROTC teacher!" She frantically injected that last sentence, hoping that she wouldn't upset the man that she was talking to. She knew that the ROTC student's tended to worship Mustang, which she frowned apon, but LOOK AT THIS GUY! She was head over heels already for him, and she had only just officially met him! She really didn't want to upset him, yet at least. Maybe later she would, especially if he turned out to be an egotistical ass hole like his general. "I am in the Warrior Program. Third year. I should be a fourth year, but I started later than most students," She said with a nonchalante shrug. She was used to her level in the school and accepted it. Besides, she had Yuffie now, and may have never met her had she started the school the year she really should have.
"I'm hungry. Want to get some breakfast?"
The question that came from the slightly older student made Alicia look at him like he was crazy for a moment. Her red and silver eyes were filled with shock and her cheeks turned red. "Uhh..uh...Yeah! I would love to!" She finally answered with a smile to Vincent. Her heart skipped a beat as she beamed slightly. If she had the power, she would have kept her exterior looking tough and chilled, but she was too inexperianced with the hormonal emotions going through her now that there was no stopping her smile and wide eyes.

- - - - - - - - - - a warning to the people, the good and the evil this is war - - - - - - - - - - Vincent raised an eyebrow at Alicia's words, an amused smirk appearing on his features. It vanished almost as soon as it appeared, the fleeting expression of his amusement disappearing almost as soon as it had appeared. He was amused by that comment. He was amused by her trying so hard to cover for her comment and especially for the comment in and of itself. Vincent was rather curious as to why she thought that Mustang wasn't a great guy. He wasn't the most amazing man ever, but Vincent didn't particularly mind him. The military structure of ROTC tended to be rather annoying, but Vincent didn't mind Mustang as much as he minded people trying to make him do what they wanted him to do.
"Why don't you get along?" Vincent questioned smoothly, his tone cool. There was little inflection to his words, as was typical for him. He wasn't generally the type to ask questions, but Vincent was curious. Why did she dislike Mustang so much? He wasn't that bad. Mustang certainly wasn't the kind of person that Vincent would be friends with, but Vincent was a very picky man when it came to friends.
So she was in the Warrior Program. Perhaps that explained why she didn't like Mustang that much. Generally, ROTC students didn't like Warriors and Vincent was sure that it held true the other way around as well. But Alicia was fairly likable, unlike many of the Warrior students according to his ROTC comrades. Of course, Vincent took their advice with a pinch of salt. They were highly biased and rather obsessive about Mustang. Who, as previously mentioned, was truly not that great. Certainly not worth the fangirling that he seemed to get nonstop. It was ridiculous. Especially when they were doing actual ROTC programs and the girls were trying to look pretty. He was glad that Lucrecia had never tried to do that. And Alicia didn't seem like the type either. Perhaps she would be worth some time.
Shrugging the thought off, Vincent blinked placidly. There wasn't much to say in response to her words, so he kept quiet. Small talk was not his forte. He had some strengths, but keeping a conversation definitely wasn't one of them. Especially not when Vincent was fighting back a yawn every few moments. His body wanted nothing more than to sleep, but Vincent's mind was vividly and solidly awake and he wasn't going to be getting any sleep any time soon. So he simply tuned his exhaustion out and listened to Alicia talk. She didn't chatter needlessly, Vincent noted absently. It made what she had to say actually worth listening to, for the most part. Though he really didn't care that she was supposed to be a fourth year.
Vincent looked slightly amused by the excitement in Alicia's voice. She looked embarrassed, her cheeks flushing at his words, though he couldn't fathom why. He had never been good at reading the emotions of others. So Vincent shrugged it off slightly, "Come on, then." He said smoothly, rising to his feet easily, "I guess we probably need to put the blankets away first." Vincent added after a moment, glancing at the blanket that was wrapped around his frame.
Other than the small issue with the blankets, Vincent was ready to go. He had food on his mind and his stomach rumbled loudly again, reminding him that he hadn't eaten in quite some time.

Alicia was beaming on the inside, though on the outside, she was finally starting to take control of her own emotions. She was still a bit pink in the cheeks, but she was no longer almost bouncing with her giddy-ness. Though, that didn't mean she wasn't excited. She was more than thirlled by what Vincent had offered, and the fact that he was STILL going to go to breakfast with her. Yuffie would never believe this! Yet, that was the last thing on Alicia's mind. She stood up when Vincent did, and gathered up her blankets and laptop. "Yeah. It will only be a second, though," She said with a smile. She started to walk away, towards her dorm, totally oblivious to the fact that she hadn't grabbed the other blanket from Vincent. She looked over her shoulder at him though, and started her explination of Mustang. "Mustang and I don't really get along. We butt heads, I suppose. I am totally innocent too," She snickered, the only hint of her sarcasum. She was as innocent as a heartattack.
Alicia snickered more to herself. Heartattack. It made her wonder if she could scare him, well surprise him, so badly that he passed out. Sure, it would be difficult, but she and Yuffie never turned a challenge down. Oh, how brilliant it could be!
Shaking her head slightly, Alicia looked back over her shoulder at Vincent, then turned around again. Her trickery thoughts were gone again and she was back in her giddy mood.
